The species name of jalapenos is Capsicum annuum. They are also called gorda, bola, acorchado, morita and candelaria peppers. Jalapeno peppers are commonly around 1 inch in diameter, between 2 and 3 inches long and cone shaped, with a larger root end that tapers to the opposite end.
