The Polaris Blueberry is a hardy, compact, half-high blueberry variety from the University of Minnesota, known for its very cold tolerance (Zone 3) and early-ripening, sweet, aromatic berries perfect for containers or small gardens. It produces medium-sized, firm, light-blue fruit in mid-summer, but requires a different blueberry variety for cross-pollination to ensure a good harvest, thriving in acidic, well-drained soil.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade
Soil: Requires acidic (pH 4.5-5.5), moist, well-drained soil; use ericaceous compost or soil acidifiers
Water: Keep evenly moist but not waterlogged
Pollination: Needs a different blueberry variety nearby (like 'Northblue', 'Northsky', or 'Northcountry') for cross-pollination
Uses: Excellent for fresh eating, baking, jams, and preserves
